Special conditions apply to access to theses in Australian libraries, including the Conservatorium library, and other University of Sydney libraries. Many are held in closed access or Rare Book collections.
Search the University of Sydney catalogue as you would for a Book. If the item is an Australian thesis you may be required to visit the holding USYD library. Contact the library before visiting to make an appointment. List of USYD libraries
Theses which originate from an overseas university may be requested as an Inter-Campus request. Use the Request a Book on-line form to request an ICL.
If an Australian theses is not held locally at USYD the only option is purchase.
Document Delivery for Theses
If an overseas thesis cannot be located at a USYD library, send the request to the Document Delivery librarian. Use the Request a book on-line form. Request a Book
The Document Delivery librarian will check for Australian holdings and place a request on your behalf.
It is not possible to request a loan of an overseas thesis from an overseas library.
In this case the only option is purchase.
Purchasing Theses
All Australian theses must be purchased.
All overseas theses not already held in Australian libraries must be purchased.
The Conservatorium library will generally purchase 1 - 2 theses on behalf of a Post-Graduate student. The thesis is then deposited in the library.
The thesis must be central to your post-graduate project and relevant to a subject areas in which the library collects.
Post-graduate students require a recommendation from their supervisor to the Library Manager before approval for purchase may be granted.
