Objectives of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music

The principal objective of the Conservatorium is to prepare gifted students of all backgrounds and nationalities for a professional career in music.

To achieve this objective emphasis is placed on the following:

• Employing only those teachers with proven excellence and distinction in their discipline.
• Admitting only those applicants who satisfy the Conservatorium´s entrance standards.
• Providing opportunities for students to learn from distinguished overseas musicians who work for short periods as artists or teachers in residence.
• Identifying musical talent at an early stage by providing
  - a Youth Access Program in which talented young people are provided with opportunities to develop musical skills under the guidance of the best possible teachers; and
  - advanced tuition in music for selected students who attend the Conservatorium High School.
• Offering specialised postgraduate courses.
