Impro Basics
An opportunity for instrumentalists to discover basic rhythmic and tonal techniques that relate to jazz. You will improve your aural skills while gaining practical experience of playing simple improvised melodic lines over a standard melody and chords.
Entry: open to competent instrumentalists with little or no jazz experience
Level: new improvisers welcome

Impro 1
For those who have completed Impro Basics or for anyone with some improvising experience who wants to learn more about improvising melodic lines in a creative workshop environment. Extend the ability to improvise using modal, chordal and rhythmic concepts through the use of standard jazz classics and blues.
Entry:
by telephone interview or prior enrolment in Impro Basics
Level: intermediate
Instrumentalists should be able to play all major scales, have a basic
knowledge of modes, understand 7th type chords and blues form.
Course fee:
Terms 1-3 $450 per term; Term 4 $285

Jazz Ensembles
Auditions for Term 2 on Thurs 23 April, 5-8pm
A unique opportunity for instrumentalists to play in a small jazz band and to refine their ensemble skills through improvisation and repertoire development.
Entry:
By audition: a jazz standard of own choice, improvisation and sight reading. Drummers should demonstrate time-feel and styles.
Level: intermediate
Instrumentalists should know all major scales and have a working knowledge of modes + maj, min, dominant 7 arpeggios.

Terms 1-3 $450 per term; Term 4 - $285

Jazzgroup One
Auditions for Term 2 on Thurs 23 April, 5-8pm
The premier ensemble for advanced players wanting to prepare for the profession or full time study. This challenging course focuses on extending technique, improvisation, aural and ensemble skills and general jazz knowledge.

Level: advanced
