Application and audition

The first step if you are interested in becoming a piano technician, is to complete an application form from this site. Download, print and complete this and return it with the $75.00 fee by 28 November 2008.

All applicants will then be invited to attend a 2 day audition that will be held at the Conservatorium on:

Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th of December 2008 – from 9.00am to 3.00pm

Currently, this course can accept 6 students. This number is determined by both the physical resources available to deliver the course and the budgetary limits of lecturer costs. Because of the small intake, we need to ensure that those accepted as students have the highest potential to complete the course and become successful piano technicians, so we ask all applicants to attend an audition.

In the first session of the audition, the course director will give an overview of the scope of the course and describe a typical day. Further sessions will assess each applicant’s hearing, mechanical aptitude, concentration and general suitability for the work. Each candidate will be interviewed several times and will have the opportunity to ask questions, view the facilities at the Conservatorium and hear from one of the graduates of the 2006 course.

Places in the course will be offered to 6 applicants via phone or email. Another 3 applicants will be offered a reserve position, and will be offered a place in the course should one of the 6 candidates be unable to continue within the first four weeks.

All applicants will be notified individually of the results of the audition, by mail, by the 22 December 2008.

The course will commence on Monday 2 February 2009
