Eligibility
Applications are open to music students aged 15 to 18 in the following instrumental areas:
- Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass)
- Wind (Flute, Clarinet)
- Piano
- Voice
Participants should have achieved the following minimum music level:
- Grade 5 or above in practical music examinations (Trinity College, ABRSM or equivalent)
- Grade 4 or above in theory and musicianship
As long as you meet the minimum music proficiency level there is no audition for participation in the program. However, as places are strictly limited you are encouraged to apply as early as possible to secure your place.
Applications for participation in the SCM International Music Summer School will be assessed on a first-come first-served basis. However, to ensure a well-balanced chamber music program there will be limits on numbers accepted for each instrumental area. The Sydney Conservatorium of Music reserves the right to preference students who are accompanied by a teacher.
Course Credit
As the SCM International Music Summer School is an enrichment program we do not offer course credit for future tertiary study.
English Language Requirements
Although there is no minimum English language proficiency level required for the SCM International Music Summer School please be advised that the entire program will be conducted in English. You should be comfortable that your spoken English will enable you to fully participate in all activities.
Visa and entry conditions into Australia
Many students are able to attend the SCM International Music Summer School as part of a holiday to Australia and enter on a tourist’s visa. However, it is your responsibility to check with the relevant authorities to confirm the type of visa required.
Applications for an Australian tourist’s visa for children under 18 years of age must include a consent form signed by the child’s parent/s or legal guardian/s. Evidence must be provided to confirm the family relationship or guardianship.

Withdrawal and Refund policy
A$200 deposit is non-refundable.
Participants wishing to withdraw from the SCM International Music Summer School must confirm their withdrawal in writing. Withdrawals are accepted prior to the commencement of the program and refunds will be made as follows:
Withdrawal before 31 October, 2008 - full refund of fees (if already paid) less A$200 non-refundable deposit
Withdrawal between 1 November, 2008 and program commencement – refund less 50% late withdrawal fee (A$1100)
Withdrawal following commencement of program – no refund
