Tutor Goetz

Associate Professor Goetz Richter, Violin

Goetz Richter was born in Hamburg, Germany and following studies in Europe cam to Australia as Concertmaster of the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra in 1985. After a brief engagement with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as acting Associate Principal Violin II Goetz was appointed Associate Concertmaster of the Sydney Symphony in 1987. As a member of numerous chamber ensembles he has appeared for Musica Viva, the Sydney Symphony’s chamber music series “Music for Spring” and broadcasts for ABC-FM and 2 MBS-FM.

Goetz co-founded the Camden Haven Chamber Music Festival and was the festival’s Artistic Director until 2003. He is artistic director of the Kendall National Violin Competition and was faculty member of the 2005 and 2006 Euroarts summer academy in Leipzig, Germany. Goetz is currently the Associate Professor of Strings at the Sydney Conservatorium where he has been a senior lecturer in violin and the Chair of Strings since 1997.


Tutor - P.Ford

Mr Paul Rickard-Ford, Piano and Pedagogy

Paul Rickard-Ford is regarded as one of the most exciting talents to have emerged from Australia. His performances have thrilled audiences both in Australia and abroad.

Paul is in demand as a recording artist, recitalist, examiner, adjudicator and master teacher throughout Australia. In 2000 he was invited to give masterclasses at the Beijing Central Conservatory and the Shanghai Conservatory and gave recitals at the Australian Embassy in Beijing and the Shanghai Concert Hall. In 2003 he was invited to give lectures in Guangzhou and also to give masterclasses in Shenyang.

He is an acknowledged leader in the field of Professional Development for piano teachers and has been Artistic Director of the Sydney Conservatorium’s annual Summer and Winter Piano Festivals since their inception 10 years ago. Paul’s students have achieved great success at competitions and examinations throughout Australia and overseas and he has five times won the AMEB’s Teachers’ Shield for the most outstanding results.


Tutor - D.Miller

Mr David Miller AM, Chamber Music and Piano

David Miller is widely recognized as one of Australia’s leading chamber musicians and vocal accompanists. The Sydney Morning Herald has described him as “the role model of Australian accompanists” and in the Queen’s Birthday 1995 Honours List he was appointed as a member of the Order of Australia for his service to music. His distinguished career has included partnerships with many internationally renowned singers and instrumentalists. His performing schedule has taken him to the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Indonesia, Japan, China, Saudi Arabia, New Caledonia, Korea, Vanuatu and Vietnam, as well as through most parts of Australia.

David has been on the staff of Sydney Conservatorium of Music since 1980 and in 1995 was appointed the first chair of the newly-formed Ensemble Studies Unit, with responsibility for Chamber Music/Accompaniment tuition. He has introduced an innovative and comprehensive program of study for students at both graduate and under-graduate levels and actively promotes a wide variety of performance opportunities for student ensembles. David has conducted master classes and lectures for universities, conservatoriums, music organizations and music conferences in many parts of Australia and Asia.


Tutor Ryan

Ms Maree Ryan, Voice

Maree Ryan, born in Tasmania, completed her studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, joining the staff in 1980. She is widely recognized as one of Australia’s leading teachers of singing.

In 2004, she was appointed to the Chair of Vocal Studies and Opera, she specializes in recital and opera repertoire. Her studio includes a number of professional singers in Opera Australia and on the professional circuits of Europe and America. Including winners, over sixty of her studio have reached the finals in Australia’s most prestigious and competitive national singing competitions.

As a performer, Maree has professional experience in opera, oratorio and recital, as well as radio and television. Her work covers all styles and genres. During her career, she was a regular performer for the Australian Broadcasting Commission. She has performed as soloist with leading orchestras under many national and international conductors, and has appeared in a number of world and Australian premieres of contemporary classical music.


Tutor - A.Still

Associate Professor Alexa Still, Flute

Alexa Still is known internationally for her many recordings on the Koch International Classics label. A New Zealander, Alexa studied in New York winning competitions including the New York Flute Club Young Artist Competition, and, East and West Artists Competition before being appointed the position of Principal Flute of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra at the age of 23. Back home, awards included a Churchill Fellowship and a Fulbright. In 1998, she became Associate Professor of Flute at University of Colorado at Boulder (USA).

Dr Still has presented recitals, concertos and master classes in England, Germany, Slovenia, Turkey, Mexico, Canada, Korea, China, Australia, New Zealand, and of course across the United States. In 2006, she was a featured soloist at both the National Flute Convention in Pittsburgh, USA, and the British Flute Society’s 5th International Convention in Manchester, UK. 2007 includes performances in New Zealand, Thailand and Puerto Rico. Alexa is currently Chair of the Board of directors (President) of the National Flute Association (USA) and regularly contributes articles to many flute journals. She joined the Sydney Conservatorium Sydney in 2006
