Symposium Submissions
Submissions are invited from researchers and/or performers whose work is relevant to the symposium theme.
Submissions over a variety of mediums are welcomed, for example:
- Solo or ensemble performance of traditional Chinese music
- Compositions expressing interpretation of traditional Chinese music
- Presentations and research papers addressing the symposium theme
- Installations and exhibitions
Submission Format
Performance
There are numerous performance opportunities throughout the symposium, ranging in duration from short pieces (from 5 to 20 minutes) for inclusion in a mixed concert program, to full recitals of up to 1 hour duration.
Performance proposals should comprise the following:
- Type of performance
- Brief description of performance, including any highlight pieces for marketing purposes
- Duration of program, and each piece
- Full program details
- Institutional and performer biographies and photos
- Equipment and technical requirements
- Recording of nominated pieces (if possible)
Performers are expected to provide their own instruments.
Compositions
A range of compositions are sought, particularly recent or newly commissioned works for performance at the symposium. Composers are responsible for organising their own performers and rehearsals.
Composition proposals should comprise the following:
- Brief description of composition
- Duration
- Instrumentation
- CD or DVD recording (if available)
Papers/Presentations
Papers addressing the theme of the symposium are sought for seminar presentation. Papers should be suitable for 20-minute presentation. Each presentation will be followed by a 10-minute discussion period. Submission requires a complete copy of each paper intended for presentation.
Artist talks by musicians or calligraphers are encouraged.
A summary submission of the topic up to one A4 page should be submitted for artist talks.
All written submissions must include a brief biography of the writer/presenter (maximum 200 words).
Papers will be blind peer-reviewed for research purposes. Successfully reviewed papers will be published as proceedings of the symposium.
