Higher Education Research Data Collection
The university cut off date for HERDC Category 1 Publications for 2008 is March 31st, 2009. All publication details as outlined in the attached guide and proformas will need to be submitted to Adrienne Sach (Room 2141) by March 23rd.

- A1 - Books– Authored research book published by a commercial publisher
- B1 - Book Chapters – Authored research chapter in commercially published books
- C1 - Journal Articles – Refereed article in a scholarly journal
- E1 - Conference Publications – Full written papers that are published and peer reviewed

- A2 – Books – Authored Other
- A3 - Books – Edited
- A4 – Books – Revised Editions
- B2 – Book Chapters – Other
- C2 – Non Refereed Article in a scholarly journal
- C3 – Article in a professional journal
- C4 – Letter or note
- D – Encyclopaedia or Dictionary entry
- E2 – Conference Full written paper – non-refereed proceedings
- E3 – Conference Abstracts/posters
- E4 – Conference edited proceedings
Key Characteristics of Research Publications (as provided by DEST)
- substantial scholarly activity, as evidenced by discussion of the relevant literature, an awareness of the history and antecedents of work described, and a format which allows a reader to trace sources of the work through citations, footnotes etc;
- originality, that is, it is not a compilation of existing works;
- veracity/validity through a peer validation process or by satisfying the commercial publisher or gallery processes;
- increasing the stock of knowledge; and
being in a form that enables dissemination of knowledge.
