Sydney Conservatorium of Music
The Sydney Conservatorium of Music is located in a landmark position at the heart of Sydney's cultural precinct, close to the Sydney Opera House and surrounded by the Royal Botanic Gardens.
The main feature, the castellated building, was initially designed by Government Architect Francis Greenway, as the stable for Government House, and has housed the Conservatorium throughout its long history.
In 1997, the NSW State Government announced one of the most significant initiatives in the Conservatorium's history - a major redevelopment of the Conservatorium to create a music education facility of outstanding acoustic and architectural quality. The new facilities, completed in 2001, are regarded as one of the finest in the world, with 5 performance venues and over 130 teaching and practice studios spanning almost thirty thousand square metres.
